Job Title: Senior Customs Clerk

Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Customs Clerk to lead our customs operations, ensuring seamless import/export processes, regulatory compliance, and strategic improvements. This role requires advanced expertise in customs regulations, leadership skills to mentor junior staff, and the ability to resolve complex logistical challenges. The ideal candidate will optimize workflows, manage stakeholder relationships, and drive compliance excellence.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Senior-Level Responsibilities:Strategic Compliance Oversight:
- Develop, implement, and audit internal compliance programs to align with evolving customs regulations.
- Resolve disputes with customs authorities, including appeals, penalties, or classification disagreements.
- Advise management on trade agreements to minimize duties and tariffs.
2.Leadership & Mentorship:
- Supervise and train junior customs clerks, ensuring accuracy in documentation and processes.
- Conduct workshops on regulatory updates, software tools, and best practices.
3.Complex Documentation & Classification:
- Oversee high-value or restricted goods shipments (e.g., hazardous materials, pharmaceuticals).
- Resolve ambiguous tariff classifications and ensure adherence to HS Code standards.
4.Process Optimization:
- Identify bottlenecks in clearance processes and implement efficiency improvements.
5.Stakeholder Management:
- Negotiate contracts with clearing agents, freight forwarders, and transporters.
- Represent the company in industry forums and government consultations.
6.Risk Management & Audits:
- Conduct internal audits to mitigate risks of non-compliance.
- Prepare for and manage external customs audits or inspections.
7.Reporting & Strategy:
- Analyze clearance timelines and costs to inform strategic decisions.
- Present daily reports to operation manager on compliance, costs, and operational performance.
- Liaise with Warehouse, Sales, and suppliers to coordinate orders and resolve discrepancies.
- Expedite cargo inspections and communicate with clearing agents for timely clearance.
- Monitor regulatory changes in tariffs, permits, and government policies.
- Maintain accurate records and update stakeholders on shipment statuses.
Qualifications & Requirements:
1.Education & Experience:
- Diploma/Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years in customs clearance/logistics, with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
