Sector: Global Business, Accounting Reports to: Team leader Location: Ebene, Mauritius Employment type: Permanent, full-time Working hours: 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday Purpose of the role The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the company's accounting records, financial reporting and statutory compliance. The role takes ownership of the month-end and year-end close, prepares financial statements under IFRS, manages tax and regulatory filings, and acts as the primary point of contact for external audits. Key responsibilities Financial reporting and close • Lead the month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations. • Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS. • Prepare monthly management accounts with variance analysis against budget and prior periods. • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts and fixed asset register. Tax and statutory compliance • Prepare and file VAT returns, corporate income tax returns and other submissions to the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) within statutory deadlines. • Review payroll-related statutory deductions and filings, in coordination with HR/payroll. • Support statutory filings with the Corporate and Business Registration Department and, where applicable, the Financial Services Commission [to confirm applicability]. Audit and controls • Act as main contact for external audits; prepare audit schedules and respond to audit queries. • Maintain and strengthen internal financial controls and documented procedures. • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and control gaps. Budgeting, cash and treasury • Prepare the annual budget and periodic forecasts in coordination with management. • Monitor cash flow, bank reconciliations and payment runs. • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, including ageing reviews. Supervision and support • Review the work of junior accounting staff and provide technical guidance. • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reports for management and the board.
Requirements
Professional qualification: - ACCA, ACA or CIMA – fully qualified or finalist (Essential) - Fully qualified; registered with MIPA (Preferred) Academic: - Degree in accounting, finance or a related field (Essential) Post-qualification experience: - 3-5 years in accounting or audit (Essential) - Prior Big Four or mid-tier audit experience (Preferred) Reporting: - Hands-on preparation of IFRS financial statements (Essential) - Group or consolidation experience (Preferred) Tax: - Working knowledge of Mauritius VAT and corporate tax filings Systems: - Accounting software (Quickbooks), advanced Excel (Essential) - ERP implementation or migration (Preferred) Language: - Fluent written and spoken English and French Skills and competencies • Accuracy and attention to detail in reconciliations and reporting. • Ability to manage competing deadlines across close, tax and audit cycles. • Sound judgement on accounting treatments, with the ability to document and defend positions to auditors. • Clear written and verbal communication with non-finance stakeholders. • Integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial and payroll information. • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
