Summary
Macumba is currently seeking a well-versed accountant to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who likes to work in home decor retailing and make a difference in corporate accounting and finance. Reporting to the Director, the Accountant is responsible for the day to day operations of the finance department as well as preparing monthly financial reports and answering auditors’ queries.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full import cycle by reconciling import control account with suppliers account, preparing bank transfers for part payments and final payments of shipments, negotiating with freight forwarders, and calculating cost of sale.
- Control and audit payments and deposits at all locations and reconcile with statements of account on a biweekly basis.
- Analyse weekly sales by location and generate comparisons with month-to-date and year-to-date.
- Manage payables and prepare payments as per terms of credit.
- Chase receivables and provide additional information as needed to ensure prompt payment.
- Prepare monthly wages for all staff members with mandatory deductions and prepare bulk payments for approval.
- Oversee the renewal of all contracts and insurance
- Track records of other small cash outflows and manage petty cash
- Prepare within deadlines monthly returns (CSG, Levy, NSF, PAYE, PRGF, VAT, TDS)
- Prepare within deadlines annual returns (TDS and RoE)
- Prepare monthly financial reports and cash flow statements
- Liaise with external auditors for annual audit of financial statements
- Liaise with the company secretary for all statutory matters.
Qualifications & experience
- Degree in Accounting and Finance.
- ACCA qualified (completed or ongoing level 2).
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role including experience producing financial reports, calculating staff payroll and making payments.
- Must possess strong technical skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Knowledge of at least one accounting software, and Point of Sale is an advantage.

- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision on multiple analysis and reports with tight deadlines.
Working conditions
- Must be willing to work on Saturdays as and when needed.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime as and when required.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Must live in the northern part of the island.
